Easiest breastfeeding top DIY

Breastfeeding clothes are so expensive and rare that I've decided to make my own. I found a few nice tutorials online, but my baby takes so much of my time, I had to find a way to make a super quick, inexpensive top. After a little thinking, I came up with this: the easiest breastfeeding t-shirt in the world!

Start with two identical store bought t-shirts. Cut the one under your bust line (empire line) and the other just below the sleeves.

Hem the empire top with a zig-zag or stretch stich and do the same with the bottom half of the other shirt.

Now, line up the bottom piece right side facing the wrong side of the top piece at the bottom of the sleeve. Line up the existing sewn edges.

Now use a regular straight stitch to 'top stitch' the two pieces together.

Repeat on the other side and you're done!

 How easy is that!

I've sewn the back of the two pieces together on some of my tops to get a more finished look.
Also, some tops might stretch too much. All you need to do for those are to sew the backs together and add an elastic to either just the bottom piece or both, depending on the fabric and the look you're going for.

All done! And it started with two cheap shirts! Anyone can do this.

Good luck and happy breastfeeding!

  1. I am a grandma now and am starting to look at nursing clothes for my daughter who is pregnant. This is a great idea. Thank you.
